Giles Timms is an animator, filmmaker and illustrator.
Inspired by Russian Cut-Out Animation, Comics and Expressionism, Giles has cultivated a distinctive technique that is textural, stylized and painterly. Using history and its motifs, Giles creates pop surreal worlds that are grounded in the real - 3D worlds in a flat 2D paper, cut-out style.
Recent projects include, an animated commercial for Arbonne, animated end credits and interstitials for the film 'Sunset Stories,' animated opening titles and interstitials for the film 'Let Go,' and an animated music video for 'Chasm' by Flyleaf.
As an animator, Giles has worked with Walter Robot on several projects including animated music videos for Kady Z and Barnaby Saints, animated scenes for the documentary 'Lucky' and on the award winning animated music video, 'Grapevine Fires' by Death Cab for Cutie.
As a filmmaker, Giles' animated films have won several film festival awards and honors and have also been featured on Boing Boing, Motionographer, Cartoon Brew and Juxtapoz. His work has screened at the Sundance Film Festival, SXSW, the Los Angeles Film Festival and on PBS and HBO.
Originally from Wales, Giles currently lives in the US and Bulgaria and graduated with an MFA in animation from the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television.
Giles is also an educator and works as an Associate Professor in the JMC department at the American University in Bulgaria (AUBG).
