Even prickly monsters like tea…
I finally managed to enter this weeks Illustration Friday (and get something new up on my blog). I really enjoyed working in pen on the piece for ‘Hello Sunshine‘ so I decided to create another pen and ink drawing. Instead of simply using Sakura Microns, I used pen and ink to create more line variations with different sized nibs.
This piece is 6″ x 9″ and was created with Higgins India Ink and pen, and Sakura Microns (for some of the little fiddly bits).
In the photo below, you can see my collection of nibs.
Have a good weekend.
Made me laugh – beautifully drawn and creative!

Nice work! You asked what mine was painted with…I used the Art Rage program to produce the tea illustration.
I like your illustration style, and this one is lovely.
Great illustration. I really like your style and your whole blog.
This is a funny and detailed illustration, like your pen and ink on this. I was looking over some of your other work, you are quite the marvel, I think the study of your brother done in the morgue is just fab. Marvelous stuff.
These are wonder characters with such great line-work. I dig your little figure in the background ^_^ Do you collect? It’s gets pretty expensive…but it’s fun.

Although they are in B&W they have plenty of forms and depth. It is like poetry in chiaroscuro. I liked the background with the small strokes and the floor treads. It is great how you express wordlessly.

This is wonderful! It’s perhaps the most whimsical and silly tea illustration I’ve seen this week…in the very best way:> I live the variation of tones you’ve cahieved with the different kinds of pen work…very nice. It’s also fun to see you nibs and sketchbook…I love the behind the scenes stuff!
I love that the prickly monsters like tea! Very cool. You have a great site too! Very fun!

Thanks for all the wonderful comments!
I really appreciate you guys taking the time to visit and leave feedback.
Gerald — I’d love to collect vinyl figures, but as I am trying to pare down my belongings and given that I tend to be a bit of a pack rat, this is the only vinyl figure I own (I recieved it as a gift from a good friend). I do have a few books/mags on vinyl figures which keep me happy though :)
Pen and Ink, I’m impressed. Man, I gotta start practicing. And your monster and tea Illo rocks!
