I am an Edward Gorey fan so these children are also inspired by Gorey’s character designs. For inspirational reference I also used Albert Racinet’s, ‘The Historical Encyclopedia of Costumes,’ with the specific plate shown below. This is a really good book that depicts lots of great costumes.

This is an Illustrator image, derived from my sketchbook. Usually I color the Illustrator line work in Photoshop, but I decided to color this image in Illustrator because I’m trying to improve my Illustrator skills.
